Now you can take your two favorite things - Kauai Kookie and the island of Kauai – back with you – literally! The Kauai red dirt t-shirt phenomenon was born in the 1990s following a devastating category 5 hurricane called Iniki that destroyed many areas of Kauai.  Like many other small business owners, a local t-shirt designer found himself in something of a predicament when thousands of dollars worth of t-shirt inventory was damaged and stained by red dirt stirred up by the hurricane.  Resourceful and innovative, the t-shirt designer commercially experimented with dirt stained shirt concepts – the idea was an immediate hit with locals and visitors alike.
